Boise State Men's Tennis Earn No. 37 Team Ranking in Latest ITA Poll

BOISE, Idaho The first rankings of the 2009 spring tennis season were released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tues., Jan. 6, placing the Boise State men’s tennis team at No. 37 nationally. In addition to their solid national ranking, the Broncos’ had three singles players in the national rankings.

 

Senior Clancy Shields led the Broncos in the ITA national singles rankings, holding the No. 22 spot out of 125 players ranked. Fellow seniors Stanley Sarapanich and Kean Feeder fell into the No. 86 and No. 91 spots, respectively.

 

After winning the 2008 Mountain Region title, the Broncos look to be dominant in the region again, landing five singles players and one doubles team in the ITA Mountain Region rankings.

 

Out of the 30 singles players ranked in the region, Clancy Shields led the way snagging the No. 1 spot. Feeder sits just behind in the No. 4 spot, while the senior duo make up the only ranked doubles team in the region at No. 3. Freshman Cristian Hodel holds the No. 19 place on the singles chart while senior Blaine Shields ranks No. 22. Sarapanich rounds out the regionally ranked Broncos with a No. 26 spot on the singles chart.

 

The Broncos kick off their 2009 spring season on Sun., Jan. 18 when they play host to the University of Oregon. Play will begin at 1 p.m. at the Boas Tennis Center.
