SPOKANE, Wash. - Boise State sophomore Ryland McDermott split a pair of singles matches Saturday at the Bulldog Classic in Spokane, Wash., to lead the Broncos. McDermott opened the day with a straight set victory in the consolation round of 16 where he won a second set tiebreaker 6-1, 7-6(2) to defeat Seattle U’s Arshak Ghazaryan.

McDermott then advanced into the consolation quarterfinals where he faced Montana State’s Rok Sitar. It was an up and down match with the Bronco winning the opening set 6-1, but Sitar came back to win the second set, then edged McDermott in a 10-point tie breaker to settle the third.

Harvey Shackleton won his opening match Friday to advance in the main draw into Saturday’s round of 16. The sophomore from England faced Kyle Everly from Gonzaga falling in two sets to the Bulldog 6-1, 6-3.

That wraps up the Broncos’ participation at the Bulldog Classic. Boise State will close the fall campaign next weekend at the Minnesota Golden Gopher Invitational.
