Three Advance in Singles at Regional

PROVO, Utah - Pedro Platzeck, Ryland McDermott and Stefan Lalovic each recorded first round singles victories to lead the Boise State men’s tennis team on the opening day of the 2017 ITA Mountain Region Championships at Provo, Utah, on Wednesday. Boise State also had two doubles teams Matteo Tinelli and McDermott, as well as Jack Heslin and Harvey Shackleton record first round wins at the regional.

Platzeck knocked off the 14th-seeded singles player at the tournament in Santiago Sierra from Utah in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the round of 128. Sophomore Ryland McDermott won in straight sets over Northern Colorado’s Kyle Pease 6-4, 6-2. Meanwhile, freshman Stefan Lalovic went to three sets to get his victory defeating Air Force’s Santiago Garcia 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2.

All three victors advanced into Wednesday night’s second round, but none of their results were reported when this article was published.

The day began with doubles competition where the Broncos went 2-1 overall. Tinelli and McDermott earned the fist victory defeating Idaho’s duo of Peter Shin and Guilherme Scarpelli 8-6. Jack Heslin and Harvey Shackleton also claimed a win on the opening day downing Southern Utah’s tandem of Conor Tordoff and Jonathan Morales also by a 8-6 score.

Both doubles teams will play in the second round of 32 Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
