BOISE, Idaho - Brian Foley and Toby Mitchell led Boise State at the Dar Walters Tennis Classic at Boise State on Friday advancing into the “Blue” flight quarterfinals in singles. The sophomore duo each swept a pair of matches as the Broncos went 5-1 on the day in singles. Joining them in the tournament for Boise State is true freshman Abe Hewko who went 1-1.

Brian Foley playing in his second tournament of the fall opened with a round of 32 victory over Portland State’s Ian Nisenhoover in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. He then followed that with a three-set win over Sanjay Goswami from Weber State 6-7(8), 6-4, 6-1. Foley will open Saturday up with a 10 a.m. match against Idaho’s Cristobal Ramos in the quarterfinal round.

Toby Mitchell completed the opening day sweep in his first tournament of the fall. The sophomore from England began the day by defeating Eastern Washington’s Eduardo Bringold in two sets 6-3, 6-2. He then advanced into Saturday’s quarterfinals with his second straight-set victory on the day downing Daniel Loebel of Idaho State 6-1, 6-2. Mitchell will face Idaho’s Jose Bendeck next at 10 a.m. at the Appleton Tennis Center on Saturday.

Freshman Abe Hewko began his Boise State career with a straight-set win over Utah State’s Fredrik Peterson 7-6, 6-0. He then faced Weber State’s Jakub Gewert in the round of 16 where he lost a hard fought three-set contest 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Hewko and Mitchell teamed up to play doubles Friday night falling to Seattle U’s Zach Kosanke and Ian Clare 8-6.

The Dar Walters Tennis Classic continues Saturday with consolation matches at Timberline High School starting at 9 a.m. The main draws will continue at both the Appleton tennis Center and Julia Davis Park at 10 a.m.
