Tournament Draws

BOISE, Idaho (10/1/2015) - Boise State opened the first day of the Dar Walters Boise State Fall Classic going a combined 5-1 in singles and doubles. Abe Hewko, Thomas Tenreiro and Brian Foley all won their singles matches, while both doubles teams of Hewko/Tenreiro and Foley/Moyer advanced with victories. The tournament continues all weekend and starts up again at 9 a.m. Friday at the Appleton Tennis Center and Boas Indoor Tennis Center at Boise State.

Hewko, Tenreiro and Foley will continue singles play Friday morning at the Appleton Tennis Center weather permitting. If it rains matches will be moved to the indoor facility.

Abe Hewko opened the day for Boise State as the first Bronco on in singles. The junior from Palm Desert, Calif., wasted little time seizing control as he raced out to a 6-0 victory in set one versus Anirudh Satishchandra from Montana. The second set was closer but Hewko claimed the first win of the day for the Blue and Orange with a sweep 6-0, 6-4 over the Grizzly in the round of 64. Hewko will move into the round of 32 on Friday against Kyle Barnes of Army at 10:30 a.m.

The next three Broncos all went on at the same time, also playing in the round of 64. Brian Foley was the second off the court with a convincing two-set 6-4, 6-1 victory over Will Cochrane from Portland State. The win qualified Foley for the next round Friday morning versus Lewis-Clark State’s Yonas Woldetsakic at 9 a.m.

Senior Thomas Tenreiro faced Montana’s Tom Witteveen in his opening match where he lead the entire way eventually winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Tenreiro advances to Friday’s round of 32 where he will take on Weber State’s Stefan Cooper at 9 a.m.

The last Bronco off the court was sophomore Danny Moyer who battled through three-sets against Utah State’s Luis Lopez before falling 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3. After dropping the opening set, Moyer rallied to win the second 7-6 (4) in a tiebreaker. The Kalamazoo, Mich., native fell behind 3-0 in the tiebreak, then rallied with four straight points and eventually won it 7-4 forcing the third frame. Lopez broke Moyer twice to claim a 6-3 win in set three to move into the round of 32. Moyer will move into the back draw where he will face Montana’s Tomasz Soltyka at 10:30 a.m. at the Boas Indoor Tennis Friday.

In doubles Tenreiro and Hewko opened the round of 64 with a 7-5 victory over Army’s tandem of Harrison McCormick and Grant Riechmann. They will play Weber State’s Stefan Cooper and Todd Fought Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the Appleton Tennis Center.

Foley and Moyer also claimed a opening round win Thursday downing Utah State’s pair of Dylan Ihmels and Sam Serrano 6-4. They will play in the round of 32 at 3 p.m. Friday against Montana’s team of Semion Branzberg and Alexander Canellopoulos.
