Battle in the Bay Day One Recap

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Boise State men’s tennis opened the season Friday at the Battle in the Bay Classic where Jack Heslin and Matteo Tinelli competed on Friday.

The Boise State duo had a slow start on the day opening with a 8-2 doubles loss to Pacific’s Tadiwa Chinamo and Daniel Orlita in the first round.

Heslin was the first to compete in singles facing San Diego’s Guilherme Osorio in the round of 32. Heslin lost in two 6-1, 6-3 to Osorio. He will now face Cal’s Jacob Brumm at 12:30 Saturday in the consolation draw.

True freshman Matteo Tinelli battled through three sets before falling in his first collegiate singles match 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 to Pepperdine’s Brian Berdusco. Tinelli moves into Saturday’s consolation rounds where he will face Cal’s Paul Barretto at 2:30 p.m. (Mountain).
