Broncos Come Up Short at Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. - Boise State men’s tennis fell 4-1 at Fresno State on Saturday. Boise State won the doubles point on wins by Greg Wischer and Pedro Platzeck on court two, as well as Ryland McDermott and Brian Tran on court three. Unfortunately, Fresno State, coached by Boise State alumnus Luke Shields, regrouped to take the first four singles matches completed to secure the win over the Broncos.

Boise State returns home to close out the regular season next Saturday against Utah State before hosting the Mountain West Championship the weekend of April 28-30 at the Appleton Tennis Center.

The Broncos took the doubles point over Fresno State 2-1. It started with a 6-0 win by McDermott and Tran who easily defeated Zdenek Derkas and Youssef Hassan at No. 3 doubles 6-0.

After Fresno State took No. 1 singles, Boise State’s No. 2 team of Wischer and Platzeck came through for the blue and orange dispatching the Bulldogs’ Xander Veys and Jeremy Moser 6-2 to claim the team point.

Down one point heading into singles, Fresno State rallied by sweeping four-straight singles matches to claim the victory.

Kyle Butters was leading on court one 7-5, 3-1 over Xander Veys when the contest was abandoned, while Jack Heslin was trailing in the third set 2-6, 6-3, 1-2 when his match stopped.
