USAFA, Colo. - Jack Heslin and Kyle Butters both won in singles to lead Boise State in a tight 4-2 defeat at Air Force Friday afternoon in a Mountain West Conference men’s tennis match. The Boise State tandem earned the lone points of the day for the Broncos as they both won in straight sets.

Air Force took the early control when the Falcons won the doubles point 2-1 with victories on courts two and three. Boise State’s Jack Heslin and Butters led the Broncos defeating AFA’s Pat Sklenka and Isaac Perez 6-1 at the No. 1 position.

Boise State was led in singles by Heslin and Butters who cruised to wins on courts one and two. Heslin put away the Falcons’ Sklenka at No. 1 singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. He has now won three straight contests and is 8-9 in duals this spring.

Butters also won easily on Friday dispatching Luke Sanderson on court two by a 6-3, 6-3 score. The junior is now 5-4 at No. 2 singles in dual matches this spring.

Unfortunately, Air Force was able to record victories at No. 3, 4 and 5 singles to claim the team victory 4-2 over the Broncos. At the time the match was stopped with the clinching of the win by the Falcons, Boise State’s Ryland McDermott was leading on court six 6-1, 4-3 over Tadhg Collins.

Boise State will be back in action on Sunday when they take on the New Mexico Lobos in Albuquerque at noon (Mountain).
