Sunday Split for Men's Tennis

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State (9-12, 1-3 MW) two tightly-contested matches, Sunday at the Boas Tennis Complex. The Broncos opened the day with a 4-3 defeat to conference rival Nevada, before responding with a 4-3 victory over in-state rival Idaho in the afternoon.

The Broncos will now hit the road for a stretch of three games, before closing out the regular season at home against Idaho (April 21).

Nevada Recap

The Broncos battled Nevada in a tightly contested dual to open the day. After dropping the doubles point, Boise State rallied back to force a deciding point at No. 5 singles with Matteo Tinelli that went three sets. Tinelli fell in the final set, 6-3, as Boise State would lose the dual, 4-3.

Pedro Platzeck opened singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles to tie the dual at 1-1 with the Wolfpack. Wyatt DeMulling picked up his first Mountain West victory in singles at the No. 4 spot with a 6-2, 6-3 victory, while Kyle Butters would get the win at No. 2 singles, dominating the second set (7-6, 6-1).

Tinelli claimed the first set, but would drop the next two to lose in the No. 3 spot (5-7, 6-0, 6-3).

Boise State would lose at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, and Mattia Bedolo and Wyatt DeMulling were ahead 5-3 in their match at the No. 3 position before it was ended early.

Idaho State Recap

Boise State took on rival Idaho State in a close match that came down to the final point. Boise State failed to secure the doubles point, so it entered the singles matches down one. The Broncos were able to rally, and took the match to the final point with Jack Heslin in the No. 1 position that went to a third set. Heslin won on a tiebreaker, 7-6, to secure a Bronco victory.

On court one, Heslin dropped the first set 4-6, but then rebounded in set two, winning 6-4. This set up a match-deciding third set, where Heslin was down 4-2, but was able to claw his way back to tie it at 6-6, sending the match into a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Heslin was down 2-0, but then won three straight, and finished his match with a win, securing a Bronco victory. ­­

In doubles, the Broncos dropped the first match on court one 6-3, but rebounded on court three as Max Blancaneaux and Harvey Shackelton were able to get the point with a 6-4 victory. Stefan Lalovic and Pedro Platzeck lost in a tight match 7-6 on court two, which secured the doubles point for Idaho State.

The Broncos got off to a good start in the singles, as Platzeck, Max Blancaneaux, and Ryland McDermott won the first three singles matches at courts three, six, and five respectively. The three Broncos all won decisively in two sets, which put the Broncos up one point with two matches remaining. The Broncos lost at courts two and four, which set up the deciding final point at court one.
