Boise State Sweeps Two on Sunday

BOISE, Idaho - After six weeks on the road the Broncos closed a successful weekend at home sweeping three matches including a pair on Sunday over Montana State (4-3) and Weber State (4-0). Combined with a 4-3 win over Santa Clara yesterday the Broncos have won six of their last seven contests to improve to 7-9 overall.

On Sunday Maximilien Blancaneaux led the Broncos going 4-0 overall, 2-0 at No. 6 singles and 2-0 in doubles, while Jack Heslin went 3-1 on the day, 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-1 at No. 1 doubles. Wyatt DeMulling won both of his singles matches and did not play any doubles.

Next up for Boise State is a road trip to Cal Poly next weekend.


Montana State Recap

Boise State won a tightly contested match 4-3 against the Montana State Bobcats Sunday morning at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise. The Broncos won the doubles point on Saturday night 2-1, then followed by splitting the six singles contests earning victories from Jack Heslin, Max Blancaneaux and Wyatt DeMulling, who clinched the win.

Saturday night Boise State claimed the doubles point 2-1 with two of the matches decided with tiebreakers. The Broncos’ brother tandem of Jack and Tim Heslin started the ball rolling with a commanding 6-2 win over Mateus Ceolin and Joaquin Espinoza at No. 3 doubles.

Montana State then evened it up with a win on court one where the Bobcats’ Alexander Flink and Rok Sitar edged Boise State’s Stefan Lalovic and Pedro Platzeck in a tiebreaker 7-6(3).

The Broncos point clincher came on court two where Harvey Shackleton and Max Blancaneaux defeated Max Petrak and Adrian Torrico in a 7-6(3) battle.

Boise State took a 3-0 lead in the match when Jack Heslin won No. 1 singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 over MSU’s Flink, followed by Blancaneaux’s win on court six 6-1, 6-4. The junior from France rallied from 4-1 down in the second set to win five-consecutive games to take the match over Ceolin.

After Montana State had rallied to tie the team score at 3-3 with wins on courts three, five and four, Boise State’s DeMulling brought the win home. The sophomore from Seattle, Wash., clinched the team victory when he rallied from one set down to beat Rok Sitar. DeMulling trailed by two games in set two only to rally late winning the set in a tiebreaker, then put the match away by dominating the third frame for a 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-2 win to hand the blue and orange its second-straight victory.


Weber State Recap

Boise State took the early momentum rallying to win the doubles point 2-1 over the Wildcats. Weber State opened with a win on court one.

The Broncos rallied taking No. 3 doubles where Maximilien Blancaneaux and Harvey Shackleton defeated WSU’s Hou-En Chen and Nick Werner 7-5. Blancaneaux and Shackleton are now a team-best 7-2 overall this spring. Pedro Platzeck and Stefan Lalovic clinched the doubles point for the blue and orange when they downed Mike Van Schoor and Cezary Walkusz by a 7-5 score on court two.

Boise State then won three straight singles matches beginning with court five where Mattia Bedolo won when his opponent Michael Van Schoor retired because of injury with Bedolo up 3-0 in set one. Maximilien Blancaneaux brought the Broncos within one of victory when he swept Bo-Han Li in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

The match was clinched on court one where Jack Heslin dispatched Weber State’s Stefan Cooper in two sets 7-6(5), 6-4. Heslin finished the day winning both singles matches at the No. 1 position.
