EVANSTON, Ill. - Boise State’s men’s tennis team fell 4-0 at ninth-ranked Northwestern Friday afternoon in Evanston, Ill., in the first of two matches this weekend. Boise State lost the doubles point 2-0 to the Wildcats, then fell at No. 1, 2 and 5 singles positions as Northwestern clinched the match to remain undefeated on the year at 7-0, while the young Broncos moved to 1-5 overall.

Trailing 1-0 after doubles, Boise State took the court for singles featuring a young lineup without its top player in Kyle Butters.

The Wildcats used their experience at the top of the list as they took a 2-0 advantage following a win on court two where senior Konrad Zieba downed Boise State sophomore Jack Heslin 6-0, 6-3.

Northwestern senior and 26th-ranked Strong Kirchheimer defeated freshman Brian Tran on court one 6-1, 6-1 to extend the Wildcat lead out to 3-0.

The match clincher came on court five where Boise State’s Harvey Shackleton, a freshman, lost in two 6-2, 6-2 to Jason Seidman.

The remaining three singles contests were abandoned once the team victory was clinched.

Next up for the Broncos is a Sunday morning encounter with Harvard at 9 a.m. (Mountain) on the Northwestern campus in Evanston.
