Boise State Falls at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Jan. 30, 2016) - Boise State’s men’s tennis team traveled across the country Saturday where they fell 7-0 at No. 18 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. Leading the Broncos were a pair of freshmen Kyle Butters who fell at No. 3 singles in a close contest 7-5, 6-4, while Pedro Platzeck fell in three sets on court six 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. The loss is the second straight for 58th-ranked Boise State who moved to 4-2 overall on the year.

Virginia Tech won the first two doubles matches completed by 6-3 scores on courts two and three to win the team point, while the third match at No. 1 doubles featuring Butters and Toby Mitchell took on the 21st-ranked duo from Virginia Tech Andreas Bjerrehus and Joao Monteiro was stopped at 5-3.

The six singles matches were played out with all of them going to the Hokies. In addition to Butters and Platzeck’s close singles losses, Boise State’s Mitchell played 14th-ranked Joao Monteiro falling 6-4, 6-1. Abe Hewko also faced a nationally ranked opponent in No. 46 Edoardo Tessaro on court four suffering a 6-4, 6-1 defeat.
