Broncos Fall 6-1 to Mustangs
Jan. 23, 2017

Box Score

EAGLE, Idaho - Jack Heslin’s win at No. 3 singles was not enough to propel Boise State past Cal Poly Monday morning as the Broncos lost 6-1 at the Eagle Tennis Club. Heslin defeated Josh Ortlip in a 10-point third set tiebreaker 6-4, 2-4, 1-0(11-9) to record Boise State’s lone point in the contest.

The loss moved Boise State to 1-2 on the young season. In the battle of the Patton family, son Garrett, an assistant at Cal Poly, defeated his father Boise State head coach Greg Patton as the Mustangs (1-0) won their season opener.

Boise State’s doubles team of Kyle Butters and Harvey Shackleton earned a hard fought 6-3 victory over the Mustangs’ duo of Garrett Auproux and Tim Tan on court two, but Cal Poly won the doubles team point with victories on courts one and three.

Sophomore Pedro Platzeck lost a close singles match on court four where he rallied from one set down only to fall in a 10-point third set tiebreaker to Garrett Auproux 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).

Next up for Boise State is the 2017 ITA Kick-Off Classic in Los Angeles, Calif., where the Broncos will face Lamar on Saturday. A win over the Cardinals would mean the Broncos would advance to play the winner of No. 7 UCLA or New Mexico on Sunday for a berth into the ITA Indoor National Team Championship in February.
