BOISE, Idaho (1/16/2016) - The 59th-ranked Boise State men’s tennis team completed the season opening sweep Saturday with victories over Grand Canyon 5-2 and Montana State 7-0 at the Crane Creek Country Club in Boise. The Broncos saw Toby Mitchell, Kyle Butters, Tillman Haynes and Pedro Platzeck all go 2-0 in singles to lead Boise State. The Blue and Orange also swept all four doubles matches that were completed with the teams of Haynes/Roskilly and Platzeck/Wischer going 2-0 as the Broncos claimed the team doubles point in both matches.

The Broncos are now 2-0 on the season with a third home match on the slate Tuesday morning against Southern Utah at Boise State’s Boas Indoor Tennis Center. 

Boise State Wins Opener 5-2 Over Grand Canyon

BOISE, Idaho (1/16/2016) - Boise State men’s tennis opened the season with a 5-2 victory over Grand Canyon in the first match of a doubleheader Saturday at Crane Creek Country Club in Boise. The Broncos won the doubles point with victories by the teams of Pedro Platseck and Greg Wischer, and Lewis Roskilly and Tillman Haynes. Boise State then brought home the win with singles victories by Haynes, Platzeck, Kyle Butters and Toby Mitchell.  

Boise State opened the match by claiming the doubles point 2-0 with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. The No. 3 doubles team made up of freshmen Greg Wischer and Pedro Platzeck won the their first collegiate match ever played wearing the blue and orange by a 6-2 score over GCU’s tandem of Meidy Chazeau and Matt Rajaonah.

The No. 2 double s team featuring Lewis Roskilly and freshman Tillman Haynes struggled initially and found themselves down 0-4, but eventually rallied winning six straight games to clinch the doubles point with 6-4 victory over Adrian Legarreta and Mitch Maroscher.

The top doubles team of Toby Mitchell and Kyle Butters were tied 5-5 when the match was stopped with the clinching of the team point.

Haynes started the ball rolling for the Broncos in singles defeating Grand Canyon’s Chazeau in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 on court four to give Boise State a 2-0 lead.

Grand Canyon cut its deficit when Alex Roggenkamp beat the Broncos’ Lewis Roskilly on court three 6-3, 7-5.

That was followed by two Boise State victories on courts two and five. Butters downed Felix Schueller 6-1, 7-6 (2) at No. 2 singles, while Platzeck won his first Boise State singles match in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 over Legarreta at the fives to clinch the Boise State team victory up 4-1.

The final two matches saw Mitchell down GCU’s Maroscher 5-7, 6-2, 6-0, while The Antelopes’ Rajaonah defeated the Broncos Wischer on court six 6-3, 6-3.

Boise State Sweeps Season Opening Doubleheader
Broncos beat Montana State 7-0 to go 2-0 Saturday.

BOISE, Idaho (1/16/2016) - Boise State completed the season opening sweep on Saturday defeating Montana State 7-0 in the second match of the day at Crane Creek Country Club in Boise. The Broncos’ won the doubles point 2-0, then swept all six singles matches to put away the Bobcats and improve to 2-0 on the season after recording a 5-2 win over Grand Canyon earlier in the day.

Tillman Haynes and Lewis Roskilly collected a tough 6-2 victory over Montana State’s No. 2 pair of Alexander Flink and Harry James. The freshmen tandem of Pedro Platzeck and Greg Wischer added a 6-4 win on court three to hand Boise State the team point. The No. 1 team of Kyle Butters and Toby Mitchell were ahead 6-5 versus Keller Bates and Rok Sitar when the match was stopped.

In singles the Broncos earned their first win at court one where Mitchell defeated Bates in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. That was followed by Roskilly at No. 3 singles where he beat the Bobcats Sitar in two sets 6-4, 6-2.

Pedro Platzeck clinched the match when he recorded his second singles victory of the day 7-5, 6-2 on court five against MSU’s Mateus Ceolin.

The last three singles match went to Boise State with Haynes winning 6-3, 6-4 on court four, followed by Butters with a three-set win on court two 6-2, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3). Sophomore Danny Moyer recorded the final win at No. 6 singles in a pro-set match 8-2 over Montana State’s Charlie Edgecomb.
