RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - Boise State newcomer Wyatt DeMulling led the Broncos on the opening day of the National Collegiate Tennis Classic Friday afternoon earning a split in singles and a doubles victory with teammate Mattia Bedolo.

DeMulling, a sophomore from Seattle, Wash., led the Boise State trio recording a victory in his first match as a Bronco defeating San Francisco’s Marco Barretto in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. The win advanced him into the round of 16 where he faced Denver’s Matt Summers falling 6-4, 6-1.

The day began with DeMulling and Bedolo claiming a solid 6-3 victory over San Francisco’s duo of Paul Giraud and Ryan Marker in the round of 16 to advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals where they will take on Pepperdine’s Nicholas Baez and Dennis Uspensky.

All three of Boise State’s contingent joined the squad on Monday. Bedolo, a freshman from Venice, Italy, opened his career in the blue and orange with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Pepperdine’s Max Mendelsohn in the round of 32.

Meanwhile, Maximilien Blancaneaux, a junior from Paris, France, began his Bronco singles career with a tough three-set defeat 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to San Francisco’s Lucas Marinelli.

Both Bedolo and Blancaneaux will move into the back draw on Saturday, while DeMulling was effectively eliminated with his second round loss in singles, but is expected to play some pick-up matches Saturday.
