Nov. 17, 2013

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State men's golf coach Kevin Burton announced the signings of Jacob Byers and Tristan Rohrbaugh to National Letters of Intent, and each will join the team for the 2014-15 season.

"Jacob and Tristan each come from great golf families, and have outstanding composure and character," Burton said. "They are each sons of golf professionals, and understand the work involved in achieving success on the course. I'm excited to have them as part of this program."

Byers, from Salt Lake City, Utah (Brighton High School), was team captain for the Bengals, who won the 2012 5A Utah State Championship - the school's first since 1987. He finished in third place individually, carding rounds of 70-71 en route to first-team all-state honors.

He earned medalist honors at the Lynn Summerhays Salt Lake City Junior Championship, and had third-place finishes at a pair of tournaments at BanBury Golf Club in Eagle - the 2013 Dropping Junior Championship (tie) and the 2013 Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Tour BanBury Major.

Byers also finished third at the 2013 Utah Junior Stroke Play Championship.

Rohrbaugh, from Basalt, Colo., won several high school tournaments as a senior at Basalt High School, posting a scoring average of 72 for the season. He capped his final prep campaign by winning the Colorado 3A State Championship, carding rounds of 71-70 (-1).

He was the only individual in the field to finish under par as he captured the first individual title in school history.
