Humphreys Named MW Golfer Of The Month
Nov. 9, 2016

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men’s golf freshman Brian Humphreys was named Mountain West Men's Golfer of the Month for October/November, the conference announced Wednesday.

It is the first such honor of Humphreys’ young collegiate career and the first Mountain West weekly/monthly honor for a Bronco since current senior Kyle Mitsunaga was named Golfer of the Week on April 15, 2015. This month’s honor from the Mountain West included the month of October plus competition through the end of the fall season (Nov. 6).

Humphreys, a Washougal, Wash., native, opened October by earning co-medalist honors at the Ogio Utah Invitational (Oct. 3-4) in Park City, Utah. He made a strong surge in the final round, carding six birdies on the back nine to finish at 3-under over the rain-shortened tournament’s two rounds, sharing the title with Lamar’s Zander Gous and becoming Boise State’s first medalist since Ty Travis finished the Folino Golf Invitational in a three-way tie for first from Feb. 16-17, 2015.

He followed that performance up by tying for second place at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational three weeks later (Oct. 27-29), finishing the event at 7-under, just two strokes behind the winner. Humphreys closed that tournament with a 68 (-3) to end up second.

Humphreys’ performances helped the Broncos nab a pair of top-five finishes during the month, as Boise State took fourth in Park City and tied for fifth in Stockton. The last time the Broncos had posted consecutive top-five finishes was in 2011-12.

Boise State wrapped up the fall season at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic (Nov. 3-5), tying for 17th on the team leaderboard, and will begin the spring season Jan. 30-31 at the Folino Invitational in Fullerton, Calif.
