Brown and Spiewak tied for sixth.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (10/25/2010) - Boise State University’s men’s golf team is tied for fifth-place out of 15 teams after two rounds at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. The Broncos carded a two-round score of 17-over 585 on the New Mexico State University Golf Course to find itself tied with the University of Kansas with one round to go on Tuesday. Blake Brown and Scott Spiewak lead Boise State tied for sixth-place after firing even-par 142’s on Monday.   
 
New Mexico State leads the team competition by one stroke over Washington State University carding a 6-over 574. The WSU Cougars shot 575 (+7) followed by UNLV at 577 (+9) and Idaho at 582 (+14). Boise State is 11 strokes out of first place after carding scores of 289 (+5) and 296 (+12) for a 17-over 585.

New Mexico State’s Tim Madigan leads the individual competition after two rounds turning in a 6-under 136 Monday. Brown and Spiewak enter the final round on Tuesday six strokes back of Madigan. Brown opened the day with a season-low 68 (-3) on the first 18, then dropped off a bit in the afternoon session with a 74 (+3).

Spiewak started off tallying a 2-over 73 in the morning then rallied to shave four strokes off that with a 69 (-2) in the second round. He now has a team-high four rounds in the 60’s this fall.  Spiewak and Brown are in a four-way tie for sixth place after two rounds.

Chris Byrne shot a two-round score of 7-over 149 (75-74) and is tied with six others for 28th. Taeksoo Kim shot scores of 73 (+2) and 79 (+8) to finish the two rounds with a 10-over 152, followed by Taylor Porter who shot 13-over 155 (76-79).

The final round of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate will be played Tuesday morning at the New Mexico State University Golf Course in Las Cruces.
