Santa Clara Invitational on the Horizon

What’s Happening The Boise State University men’s golf team will compete in the Santa Clara Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara University, Oct. 23 through Oct. 24.


Last Time Out The Broncos posted a season best, second place finish when they shot a 16-under par, 836, at the District VII Shootout, in Las Vegas, Nev.


Boise State finished ahead of all Western Athletic Conference rivals competing at the event, knocking off fifth place Nevada by 13 strokes, sixth place Hawaii by 14 strokes, and ninth place Idaho by 21 strokes.


The Players Boise State will be sending to five golfers to the Shootout including Troy Merritt.


At the District VII Shootout, Troy Merritt tied the school record for a low round when he shot a 9-under, 62. In the same tournament Merritt tied for first place with a 201 (-12) for the best finish of his career. Merritt has also recorded two other top 15 finishes this season. He finished the Purple and Red Invitational in a tie for 14th, with a score of 216 (+3). At the Vandal Classic, Merritt again finished in 14th place when he again posted a 216 (E).


The Broncos’ other top 25 finishes this season came from Matt Hastings, who finished tied for 15th at the Purple and Red Invitational with a 1-over par, 217 and Shawn Tonkin, who recorded a 213 (E) to tie for 24th at the District VII Shootout.
