Fall Season Continues in Arizona

BOISE, Idaho – The fall season continues for the Boise State men’s golf team this weekend at the Southern Dunes Invitational, Oct. 14-15.

HISTORY: This will be the first appearance for the men’s team at the Wyoming-hosted tournament. Boise State’s women’s golf team has competed at the women’s edition of tournament every season since the 2011-12 season – winning in 2013.

SCHEDULE: The first two rounds will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, beginning with a 7:30 a.m. (MT) shotgun start. The third and final round is scheduled for a 7:30 a.m. (MT) shotgun start on Sunday, Oct. 15.

LIVE RESULTS: Live scoring will be provided by golfstat.com.

THE COURSE: Play will be held in Maricopa, Ariz., at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. The course will play at par-72, 7,546-yard. The club recently hosted the PGA Tour Qualifying School (Sept. 26-29), and this weekend’s tournament will play at the same setup as it did for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds of Q-School.

THE FIELD: Boise State, Wyoming, Air Force, Cal Poly, Idaho, Loyola Marymount, Sam Houston State, Utah Valley, Western Kentucky, Washington State (10)

Individuals from Arizona and Arizona State will also be competing.

LAST TIME OUT: Boise State finished tied for fourth at The Jackrabbit, Oct. 1-3. The field featured six teams receiving votes in the latest GCAA Coaches’ Poll (Sept. 29). Donny Hopoi led the Broncos at tied for 11th (70-69-70 – 209, -7), while Brian Humphreys and Jun Ho Won were both in the top 25.

IF IT AIN’T BROKE, DON’T FIX IT: The Broncos have utilized the same lineup for all three tournaments this season – with the exception of Tristan Rohrbaugh competing as an individual at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate (Sept. 11-12). The results have propelled Boise State to their best start under head coach Dan Potter (fourth season).

The Broncos are averaging 276.83 each round, and set school records for team low-round (265) and three-round low score (820) at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate.

BRONCOS TAKE THE UNDER: Through six rounds, all five members of Boise State’s starting lineup are averaging scores at-or-under-par. Of the combined 30 rounds the starting lineup has played this season, 20 have been carded under-par, while six have been carded at-par. Hopoi, Humphreys and Eubank have yet to record a round over-par this season.

REMATCH AGAINST THE COUGARS: In the field this weekend will be the Washington State Cougars. The Broncos narrowly finished in second to Washington State by one-stroke at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate.
