Merritt Fires a 62 to Lead District VII Shootout

Las Vegas Through the opening two rounds of the District VII Shootout, hosted by the University of Hawaii, Boise State University men’s golfer Troy Merritt leads the field by three strokes with an 11-under par, 131. After registering a 69 (-2) in the opening round, Merritt followed it up by shooting a 9-under par, 62, in round two. Merritt’s 62, is the best round for an individual at Boise State in 18 years tying Chris Clark’s school record at the Tri-City Invitational in 1988.

 

The junior from Fridley, Minn., paced the way for the Broncos who stand alone in third place after day one of the tournament, with a score of 562 (-6).  Boise State remains just two strokes back of second and leads every Western Athletic Conference school in the tournament, including Hawaii by three strokes, Nevada by five and Idaho by six.

 

Nick Travers continues to play well for the Broncos as he currently is tied for 21st with a 1-under par, 141, through the first day of competition.

 

Fellow Boise State golfers Shawn Tonkin shot a 144 (+2), Matt Hastings posted a 4-over par, 146, and Chris Byrne registered a 149 (+7).
