RENO, Nev. (10/5/2009) - Boise State’s men’s golf team carded a two-round total of 15-over 591 on the opening day of the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev., to finish the day in 11th-place. Leading the way for the Broncos is senior John Baranco who is tied for 25th-place with a two-over 146.

As a team the Broncos struggled through round one with a 12-over 300 to find themselves  in last place, 13th, in the team standings.  However, Boise State rallied in the second round shaving nine strokes off its first round total with a three-over 291 finishing the day at 591 (+15) to move into 11th-place. The Broncos ended the afternoon session by passing the University of Portland with a 594 (+18) and Loyola Marymount University at 596 (+20). At the top of the team leaderboard is the host school University of Nevada and Wichita State University each with 597 (-9). 

On the individual side of the competition senior John Baranco led the Broncos with a team-best two-over 146 after recording a 74 (+2) in the opening round and an even-par 72 in the late session. He finds himself in a six-way tie for 25th.

Sophomore Blake Brown and freshman Clayton Kosanovich follow Baranco in a eight-way tie for 43rd-place with five-over-par 149s. Brown tallied a five-over 77 in the first round followed by an even-par 72 in the second. Kosanovich playing in his first collegiate tournament of his career carded the same scores as Brown in reverse order with a 72 (E) in the opening round followed by a 77 (+5) on the final 18 holes of the day.

Rounding out the roster for Boise State are senior Robbie Richards and freshman Taeksoo Kim who each recorded two-round scores of nine-over 153’s. Richards scored a 77 (+5) in the morning and a 76 (+3) in the late session. Kim struggled with a 10-over 82 in th efirst round then rebounded with a solid round of one-under 71 in the second, the top round of the day for the Broncos.  

The final round of the Wolf Pack Classic is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. (Mountain) tomorrow morning pending potential delays for frost. Today started one hour late because of the cold conditions and frost in the Reno area.
