Broncos Finish Fourth at Dash Thomas Memorial
BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State men’s golf team finished in fourth place at its first home tournament in more than five years, placing four golfers in the top 25 at the inaugural Dash Thomas Memorial.

Senior Scott Spiewak, juniors Jordan Skyles and Taeksoo Kim and redshirt junior Charlie Marusiak each finished in the top 25 at the par-71, 6,890-yard BanBury Golf Club, Tuesday.

“We didn’t quite play to our potential, but there are little things that we can correct and we will continue to get better,” Boise State head coach Kevin Burton said. “BanBury was in great shape, and I can’t thank the staff out there enough, and our community for supporting this event.”

The Broncos finished with a three-round total of even-par 852, notching their second fourth-place finish in as many tournaments this season. The two top-five efforts are already more than in all of the 2010-11 season, and as many as the team posted during 2009-10.

Spiewak finished tied for 11th with a 54-hole total of 211 (-2), Skyles and Kim each tied for 17th with totals of 214 (+1) and Marusiak finished in 21st, carding a 216 (+3).

For Skyles, Kim and Spiewak, their efforts at the Dash Thomas Memorial give them two-straight top-25 finishes to begin the 2011-12 season.

Taylor Porter rounded out the scoring for the Broncos with a 223 (+10).

The Broncos’ top finisher was playing as an individual – junior Clayton Kosanovich tied for fifth with a 6-under 207. He was tied for the lead after the first round and was just three strokes back of the leader entering the final round. He finished seven strokes back of the tournament medalist.

Sophomore Minwoo Park, also competing as an individual, finished tied for 24th with a three-round total of 219 (+6).

Boise State will continue its seas Oct. 3-4, at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate in Manhattan, Kan.
