PULLMAN, Wash. (9/14/2010) - Boise State University’s men’s golf team shot a 5-over 293 on the final day of the Palouse Cougar Collegiate in Pullman, Wash., Tuesday afternoon. Today’s total gave the Broncos a final tally of 1-over 865 to finish the tournament in eighth place out of 16 teams. Senior Chris Byrne shot a career-best 211 to lead Boise State placing tied for 10th out of 88 participants.

The host school Washington State University ran away with the team title recording a final score of 37-under 827 to out pace the University of Idaho by 12 strokes. It was a solid outing for Boise State in its season opener as the team finished 1-over-par 865 during the three-round competition with two players recording below par tournament totals. 

Byrne led Boise State throughout the two-day event recording team-lows in Monday’s first and today’s final round shooting 72 (E) and 70 (-2) respectively. Overall, the Boise native (Borah High) finished with his top 54-hole tournament performance with career marks for total score at 211, par total at -5, and finish at 10th place. He finished in a two-way tie for 10th overall, 10 strokes out of first.

Blake Brown was steady throughout the competition shooting 72-71-71 to finish in a four-way tie for 16th at 2-under 214. The junior was the defending champion from last year’s Palouse Cougar Collegiate.
 
Junior college transfer Scott Spiewak struggled a bit today, but had a strong debut tournament overall for Boise State carding a 1-over 217 to finish in a five-way tie for 30th after firing a 4-over 76 this afternoon.

Rounding out the scoring for Boise State was sophomore Clayton Kosanovich who shot a 4-over 76 today to record career-best marks for par at 8-over and score with a 224. Meanwhile, sophomore Charlie Marusiak fired a 6-over 78 in the final round for an overall score of 13-over 229 in his Bronco debut.

The Palouse Cougar Collegiate was the season opener for Boise State who now has the next three weeks off before the Broncos compete at the Cabo Invitational Oct. 2-4.
