Men's Golf in fifth place after first day of Ron Moore Invitational ?

DENVER, Colo. (9/15/08) The Boise State University men’s golf team finds itself in fifth place after two rounds at the University of Denver’s Ron Moore Invitational being held in Denver Monday and Tuesday. The Broncos were in sixth place after the first round finishing with a four-over-par 292. However, they rallied during the second round to move up to fifth with a even-par 288, completing day one with a two-round score of 580 (four-over-par).

The University of Colorado currently leads the tournament field of 17 teams by a blistering 16 strokes with a two-round score of 550 (276-274) for a 26-under-par total. The Buffaloes are followed by the Air Force Academy in second at 566 (281-285) -10, New Mexico State University at 575 (282-293) -1, Weber State University at 578 (293-285) +2, and Boise State in fifth. Nine strokes separate the six teams currently ranked from third to eighth place in the standings.

Freshman Blake Brown opened his collegiate career with Boise State’s top two-round score with a three-under-par 141 (67-74) to finish the first day of action in 12th place. Brown started the day with a sizzling 67 five-under-par during the first round before completing the second with a 74 (two-over-par). Two juniors backed Brown up for the Broncos with Robbie Richards currently tied for 14th with a 143 (74-69) one-under-par, followed by John Baranco who is one stroke back of Richards and tied for 21st with a 144 (74-70) even-par.

 

The tournament continues Tuesday morning when they will play the third and final round at the Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver.
