PULLMAN, Wash. – Boise State redshirt sophomore men’s golfer Jordan Skyles carded a final-round 68 (-3) at the season-opening Cougar Classic Tuesday, shooting up the leaderboard into a tie for seventh place.

Skyles, junior Taeksoo Kim and senior Scott Spiewak each finished in the top 25, leading the Broncos to a fourth-place team finish - their best tournament effort since the 2010 Bandon Dunes Championship (March 11-12) when the team also finished fourth.

The Broncos posted a tournament-total of 869 (284, 295, 290, +17) at the par-71, 7,308-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Course, just four strokes back of tournament-host Washington State in the 14-team field.

“We teed off later this morning and battled windy conditions, so I am proud of the way the team competed in the final round,” Boise State head coach Kevin Burton said. “Jordan moved into the top 10 on the last day, and Taeksoo and Scott finished just outside the top 10. Overall, it was a great opening to our season.”

Skyles, who transferred from Oregon prior to this season, posted a three-round total of 213 (70-75-68, E). His final-round score was tied for the lowest of the day.

Kim finished just two strokes back of the top 10 after carding a 215 (71-72-72, +2). His tie for 13th marked the fifth top-25 effort of his career.

Spiewak, who led the Broncos after the first two rounds, finished the tournament in a tie for 17th. He posted a three-round total of 216 (70-71-75, +3), and was just three strokes back of the top 10. He now boasts three-career top-25 finishes.

Rounding out the scoring for the Broncos were Charlie Marusiak (73-77-75—225, +12) and Clayton Kosanovich (79-77-78—234, +21). Taylor Poter played as an individual and posted a 224 (76-75-73, +11).
