Spiewak Tied for Fifth, Men Fourth After Day One
PULLMAN, Wash. – The Boise State men’s golf team boasts three players in the top 25 after the first two rounds of the season-opening Cougar Classic Monday, including a fifth-place-tying effort from senior Scott Spiewak.

Spiewak posted a 36-hole total of 1-under 141 (70-71) at the par-71, 7,308-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Course, and heads into Tuesday’s final round looking for his first-career top-10 finish.

The Broncos are in fourth place with a team score of 579 (+11; 284-295), just seven strokes back of tournament-host Washington State and Idaho. The Cougars and Vandals are tied for second place with team scores of 572 (+4), while San Jose State leads the 14-school event with a 563 (-5).

“We played very solid,” Boise State head coach Kevin Burton said. “There were a couple of mistakes in the afternoon, but for our first tournament of the season I am very pleased with the team’s effort.”

Junior Taeksoo Kim is tied for 14th with a 36-hole total of 143 (+1), just one stroke back of the top 10 and two strokes back of Spiewak. Redshirt sophomore Jordan Skyles is tied for 23rd with a 147 (+3).

Skyles, who is making his Bronco debut after transferring from Oregon prior to this season, posted a 1-under 70 in the opening round, his lowest collegiate 18-hole score.

Rounding out the scoring for the Broncos were Charlie Marusiak (150, +8) and Clayton Kosanovich (156, +14). Taylor Porter is competing as an individual, and posted a 151 (+9).

Two-time PGA major winner John Daly won $17,250 for the Boise State men’s and women’s golf teams in the Michelob Ultra Shoot-Out Battle of the Big Guns, Monday. Daly competed in a skins game against Jamie Sadlowski, who won $7,750 for the Treasure Valley YMCA.
