Boise, Idaho – August 4, 2010 – Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft Executive Director Jeff Sanders announced today Boise State University graduate and current PGA TOUR member Troy Merritt has committed to play in this year’s tournament September 13-19.
Merritt is in the midst of an outstanding rookie year on the PGA TOUR with winnings so far of more than $640,000. He’ll be taking advantage of an off week on the TOUR to return to his Boise golf roots.
“We are thrilled Troy is returning to Boise to play in the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft, and we thank him for providing his local fans with the chance to see him in action again” said Sanders. “Having Troy in the field gives the Boise community one more great reason to come out and support the local charities that benefit from the tournament.”
In addition to competing locally for BSU, Merritt received a sponsor exemption to play in the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft in 2008. He also played in the tournament in 2009 as a Nationwide Tour member and had won the Nationwide Tour’s Mexico Open earlier that year. Merritt then earned his way to the PGA TOUR by winning the 2009 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament.
“The Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft gave me my first shot at playing in a professional tournament, and I will always be grateful for that,” said Merritt. “It’s great that my schedule this year allows me to return to Boise to not only compete, but also to help raise money for local non-profits.”
More than 130 non-profit organizations have the potential to benefit from this year’s Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft both through the tournament’s grants and the Sara Lee TICKETS Fore CHARITY™ program. Non-profit organizations taking part in the Sara Lee TICKETS Fore CHARITY program sell tournament tickets and keep 100% of the sales they generate. Albertsons parent company SUPERVALU and Sara Lee also provide a $50,000 bonus pool that is distributed to the program participants based on each organization’s percentage of total ticket sales.
