Men's Golfers Have Solid Weekend

Las Vegas Amateur Qualifier Results | Oregon Amateur Championship Results | Idaho State Amateur Results

BOISE, Idaho –
Members of the Boise State men’s golf team posted strong outings on the weekend, competing at several amateur tournaments in the Western region. Rising juniors Brian Humphreys and Connor Johnstone competed at amateur events in Oregon and Idaho, respectively, while incoming freshman Cameron Barzekoff qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur, to be held later this summer.

Barzekoff won the Las Vegas qualifier with a sizzling 3-under 68 on the Las Vegas National Golf Course. Barzekoff, a native of Mesa, Ariz., made six birdies on the way to a three-stroke victory. His win will send him to the U.S. Junior Amateur at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield Township, N.J., July 16-21.

Current Boise State freshman Skyler Eubank competed at the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2017.

Competing at the Oregon Amateur (June 18-23) in Bend, Ore., last week, Humphreys advanced to the semifinal of match play before falling 5 & 4 to Spencer Tibbits of Oregon State. Humphreys advanced to match play with a combined 143 (71-72, -1) in stroke play to finish tied for eighth at the Bend Golf Club.

In match play, Humphreys advanced through the bracket, winning his first, second and third round matches, 4 & 2, 2 & 1, and 3 & 1. In the quarterfinal, Humphreys was again able to win in the later stages, 2 & 1.

At the Idaho State Amateur (June 22-24), Johnstone finished tied for 15th, shooting 224 (+8) over three rounds on the Canyon Springs Golf Course in Twin Falls, Idaho. The Caldwell, Idaho native saved his best round for last, shooing even (72) on Sunday.
