Merritt Tied for 19th After Round One

BREMERTON, Wash. Troy Merritt of the Boise State University men’s golf team is tied for 19th place with a 1-over 73, after the first round of the NCAA Div. I West Regional Championships, Thursday, May, 15.


Merritt began his day by birding hole No. 10. He would go on to post a total of three birdies to one bogie on the back-nine and head into the second set of nine holes 2-under par. Then on the front-nine he recorded six pars, a bogey and a double bogey to post a 73 (+1) for the first round.


Merritt was one of six individuals selected to participate with 27 teams in the NCAA West Regional Championship.


He is competing with everyone, not on a top-10 finishing team in the region, for one of two spots at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., May 28-31. After round one, he was tied with four other golfers for fourth place in the runnining for one of the two individual spots at the NCAA Championships. He trails Dan Woltman of Wisconsin by two strokes and two others, John Peterson of Louisiana State and Chris Ward of Texas Tech, by one stroke. 


The University of Oregon leads the west region team championship after the first round with 1-over 289.


The second round of the NCAA West Regional Championships will continue Friday, May 16, at 8:00 a.m. (PT). Merritt is set to tee off at 9:02 a.m. (PT).
