Spiewak Leads Broncos at MW Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. – Boise State senior Scott Spiewak posted an even-par 71 in the opening round of the Mountain West Men’s Golf Championships Friday, one of 14 golfers in the field at par-or-better.

Spiewak is currently in 12th place, just one stroke back of the top five at the par-71, 7,144-yard Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National.

Junior Clayton Kosanovich and redshirt sophomore Jordan Skyles round out a trio of Broncos finishing the first day in the top 20. Each carded first-round totals of 73 (+2), and will enter Saturday’s second round tied for 20th.

The Broncos completed the first day in sixth place, seven strokes back of UNLV, ranked seventh-nationally according to Golfstat. Boise State posted a team score of 292 (+8) in round one, finishing two strokes ahead of Wyoming and five strokes ahead of Air Force.

Rounding out the Bronco contingent were freshman Jon VanDyk (75, +4) and junior Taeksoo Kim (80, +9).
