The top score for the Broncos was posted by freshman John Baranco who shot a 36 on the front-nine and a 37 on the back-nine to register a 1-over, 73 and tie for 38th place through one round. His first round score remained consistent with his season average of 73.4 strokes per round. Baranco remains just two strokes out of the top 25.
Matt Hastings is tied for 60th place with a 3-over, 75. Hasting posted a 39 on the front-nine before dropping three strokes and recording a 36 on the back-nine. Last season at the PING Cougar Classic Hastings posted a 71 (-1) in the first and third rounds to finish tied for 45th with a 218 (+2).
Troy Merritt registered a 6-over, 78 in the first round to tie for 85th place. This is just Merritt’s second round over par in his previous eight. The 78 registered in the first round is six strokes above his season average of 71.9 shots per round.
Robbie Richards is also tied for 85th place with a 78 (+6). Richards shot a 39 on both the front and back-nine to record the six-over par. The first round has one stroke better than Richards’ season average of 79.4 strokes per round.
