► What’s Happening
The Boise State University men’s golf team will compete in this weekend’s 49th annual PING Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah. The Broncos will be one of 18 teams participating in the tournament hosted by Brigham Young University this Friday and Saturday. This is also the final tune-up for the Broncos before the Western Athletic Conference Championship in a couple of weeks.

► Boise State’s History at PING Cougar Classic

This is the fifth-consecutive year that the Broncos have participated in the PING Cougar Classic. They placed 13th out of 18 last year, tied for fourth out of 14 teams in 2009 and took sixth out of 14 in 2008. Last year Boise State shot 24-over-par 888 and were led by current-sophomore Taeksoo Kim who tied for 13th with a 1-under 215. Kim was followed by then-seniors Robbie Richards and John Baranco who tied for 52nd at 7-over 223. Boise State alum and current PGA Tour member Troy Merritt won the 2008 edition during his senior year with an 8-under 208.

► Boise State’s Roster
Representing the Broncos at the Classic will be Taeksoo Kim opening at the number one position followed by junior Taylor Porter, sophomore Clayton Kosanovich, junior Scott Spiewak and redshirt-sophomore Charlie Marusiak. Kim and Kosanovich are the only two members of this year’s tournament team to have played previously in this event, both were on last year’s squad in Provo.

► Tournament Information
The PING Cougar Classic will feature the typical five-person squads with the top-four scores per round counting towards the team tally. The competition format for this event calls for three rounds of stroke play staged over two days. The teams will open the competition on Friday with 36-continuous holes followed by the final round on Saturday. Each day will start by shotgun beginning at 8:00 a.m. (Mountain).

► The Classic’s Field
This year’s edition of the Classic will feature a larger field then previous years with 18 NCAA Division I teams participating this weekend. The WAC will be well represented in Utah this week, joining Boise State will be Fresno State, Idaho, Nevada and Utah State. The field also includes Mountain West Conference members Air Force, host BYU, Colorado State, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming. The other seven participating schools are: UC-Davis, Northern Colorado, Pacific, Southern Utah, UTEP, Washington State and Weber State. Overall, more than 90 golfers will be competing for the team and individual titles.

► The Host Course
Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah, will serve as the host course for this event. This year’s edition of the tournament will be staged as a par-71 played over a 6,902-yard course.

► What’s Happened Recently For The Broncos

It has been a month since the Broncos last competed at the Denver Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz., March 17-18. Boise State placed 14th shooting an 18-over 882 at Palm Valley Golf Club and was led by junior Scott Spiewak who shot 2-over 218 followed by Charlie Marusiak at 3-over 219 and Clayton Kosanovich at 4-over 220.
