Boise State Men's Golf Moves up to Sixth Place at Desert Shootout?

Four Broncos enter day three at even par or better.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (3/20/09) The Broncos carded a six-under-par 282 Friday in the second round of the Desert Shootout in Arizona to finish the day in sixth place out of 14 teams. Boise State was among several teams that shuffled positions this afternoon when the play was all done. The Broncos two-round total is now 11-under-par 565 as they moved from seventh place following Thursday’s first round into sixth place today, 17 strokes out of first.

John Baranco and Blake Brown finished the day with two-under-par 70s.  Baranco moved up to 18th place where he is tied with teammate Scott Loewen and four others at 140 (-4) after two rounds.

Brown shaved three strokes off his first-round total of 73 (+1) giving him a two day score of one-under-par 143. The freshman moved up 16 spots in the tournament ladder from a tie for 52nd into a seven-way tie for 36th.

Senior Scott Loewen recorded a second round score of one-under-par 71 this afternoon. His two round mark of 140 (-4) is tied for 18th overall.

Meanwhile, junior Robbie Richards matched Loewen’s score today turning in his own 71 (-1) as he remains tied for 30th with a tournament mark of two-under-par 142.  

Rounding out the Broncos’ second day was Chris Byrne with a one-over-par 73 giving him a combined score of 155 (+11).

Yesterday 51 of 91 student-athletes recorded rounds of even par or better during the first round. Four Broncos are currently among forty-five participants who are even or better (combined score) after today’s second round. Boise State will open tomorrow’s final session 17 strokes back of the University of Denver who sits in first place with a team score of 548 (-28).
