► What’s Happening
Boise State University’s men’s golf team opens the 2011 spring season this week at the seventh annual Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational in St. George, Utah. The competition is hosted by Southern Utah University and will be staged this Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 14-15 at Sunbrook Golf Club. This is the fifth competition for the Broncos in the 2010-11 campaign. 

► What Has Happened Recently
Boise State’s last competition was Oct. 25-26 at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate at Las Cruces, N.M. The Broncos finished sixth out of 15 teams carding a 16-over 868. Blake Brown placed tied for seventh with a even-par 213 followed by Scott Spiewak in 12th tallying a 2-over 215.

► Format For the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational
The squad format for this event features the typical five-man teams, top-four scores per round count towards team total. The competition format for this tournament calls for two rounds, 36 holes, of stroke play staged over two days, Feb. 14-15. The action begins Monday with the first 18 holes, followed by the final 18 on Tuesday.

► The Host Course
The host facility for this event is Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah. The tournament will be contested over the Point and Woodbridge nines at Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah. This is the first year the Woodbridge nine has been used, in years past it has been the Point and Blackrock nines. It is a par 72, 6,828-yard layout. 

► The Team Field
The Pat Hicks Thunderbird features 12 teams, nine from NCAA Division I schools and three from other divisions including one Canadian squad. Boise State and Utah State will represent the Western Athletic Conference at this event. The remaining 10 schools include British Columbia, defending champion College of Charleston, Colorado School of Mines, Dixie State, Cal State Fullerton, Oral Roberts, Seattle, Utah Valley, Western Illinois and host Southern Utah. There will be over 60 individuals competing for the team and individual titles.

► Boise State’s Tournament Roster
Boise State will travel five golfers to the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational this week. Competing for the team total will be Scott Spiewak, Taylor Porter, Taeksoo Kim, Charlie Marusiak and Minwoo Park..

No. 1 Position: Scott Spiewak - Competed in all four tournaments last fall and will open in the number one position this week. He is coming off his top performance as a Bronco at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate where he finished 12th with a 2-over 215. He currently averages 73.4 strokes per round (spr).
No. 2 Position: Taylor Porter - Porter, a native of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, is playing in his third competition as a Bronco after transferring to Boise State last summer. His first action as a Bronco was at the Purple and Red Invitational carding a 2-over 218 to tie for 24th. He Shot 11-over at the Herb Wimberly and is averaging 73.7 strokes per round this season.

No. 3 Position: Taeksoo Kim -
The sophomore from Wailuku, Hawaii, is playing in his third event of the year averaging 75.3 strokes per round.  His season-low in the fall was 5-over 221 at the Purple and Red where he tied for 34th. This is his 13th career tournament as a Bronco.
No. 4 Position: Charlie Marusiak - The redshirt sophomore is heading to his third tournament as a Bronco. He played in two events last fall with a season-best outing of 7-over-par 223 at the Purple and Red Invitational. He is averaging 75.3 strokes per round so far. 

No. 5 Position: Minwoo Park - The true freshman is competing in his first collegiate tournament this week opening in the fifth position. He was a standout for Highland High School in Tieton, Wash., during his prep career.
