Broncos Set School Record in Second Round
Sept. 11, 2017

PULLMAN, Wash. –
The Boise State men’s golf team wasted little time in establishing a high level of performance for the 2016-17 season. The team carded a score of 265 in the second round of the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate, establishing a new school record for a team low score.

The previous record of 271 stood for over 19 years after being set in the third round of the Rocky Mountain Men’s Intercollegiate (Sept. 9, 1998).

The 265 vaulted the Broncos from third to first during the tournament’s second round. The team finished the day 22-under, seven strokes ahead of second place Washington State on the 7,038-yard, par-71, Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

“The guys did a nice job today,” head coach Dan Potter said. “It was nice to see them make a lot of birdies in the afternoon. We let a few shots slip away on the last couple holes, and we’ll try to clean that up tomorrow, but overall I’m really proud of the way they came out aggressively and got comfortable in the first tournament rounds of the season.”

Boise State finished the day with a score of 546.

From top to bottom, the team found a way to shoot at-or-under par. The Broncos finished the day with six eagles – one from each golfer, two from Jacob Byers – and 46 birdies. Both marks lead the 11-team field.

Boise State’s team effort was led by the trio of Skyler Eubank, Donny Hopoi and Brian Humphreys. Eubank and Hopoi are currently tied for second at 134 (-8), while Humphreys is tied for seventh at 137 (-5).

Hopoi and Eubank sit only two strokes back of the first place individual, Thomas Vining of South Dakota.

Byers sits just outside the top 25 in a tie for 28th. The senior used a strong second to finish the day with a score of 143 (74-69, +1).

Freshman Jun Ho Won rounds out the scoring for the Broncos at 148 (72-76, +6). Tristan Rohrbaugh, competing as an individual, is tied for 33rd at 145 (72-73, +3).

Play will continue Tuesday, with a 9:30 a.m. (MT) shotgun start for the third and final round. Live scoring can be found at
