PULLMAN, Wash. - Competing in his first event as a Bronco after transferring from Weber State, junior Ty Travis paced the Boise State men's golf team through the first two rounds of the season-opening Itani Quality Homes Collegiate, Monday.

Travis, a graduate of Eagle High School in Eagle, Idaho, registered a 5-under-par 65 in the second round at the 7,247-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Club - the lowest round of the tournament and one stroke shy of the tournament record.

The score moved him nearly 50 spots up the leaderboard, into a tie for 14th with a 36-hole total of 140 (75-65, E). He recorded eight birdies on the day, including six in the second round.

Joining Travis in the top 25 is redshirt senior Jordan Skyles. Also a former Mustang, Skyles fired a 1-under 69 in the second round, completing the first day of the tournament tied for 22nd (73-69--142, +2).

The Broncos rebounded from an opening-round 295 (+15) to register an even-par 280 in the second round - the best improvement from round one to round two in the tournament field.

The second-round score was also tied for the third-lowest by a team in either round on the day.

"We had a few guys making their Bronco debuts today, and I think there are always some nerves in the first tournament of the season," head coach Kevin Burton said. "We shook some of that off in the first round, and I think the second round showed what these guys could be capable of this year."

Boise State will enter Tuesday's final round in ninth place at 575 (+15), 10 strokes back of the top three.

Rounding out the scoring for the Broncos were freshman David Elliott (74-75--149, +9), sophomore Logan France (78-71--149, +9) and freshman Mark Brassey (73-81--154, +14).

Sophomore Shane Allor is competing as an individual, and posted a two-round total of 154 (75-78, +13).

Tuesday's final round will begin with tee times at 8:30 a.m. (MT), and live scoring is available at
