April 17, 2016

EL MACERO, Calif. – Junior David Elliott fired his second 3-over 75 in three rounds at the El Macero Classic, concluding the event as the top finisher for the Boise State men’s golf team, Sunday.

Elliott finished tied for 42nd, shooting 75-79-75 at the El Macero Country Club (229, +13).

Fellow junior Kyle Mitsunaga also carded a 3-over 75 Sunday, finishing the tournament at 15-over (83-73-75—231).

“Another tough week for us,” head coach Dan Potter said. “David Elliott has made progress and showed more positive signs this week.

“We have a quick turnaround before the conference championships, and obviously need to dig deep. We’re capable of playing better, but that doesn’t count for much. At some point we have to hit better shots and shoot better scores.”

The El Macero Classic was the final event of the regular season for the Broncos, who will tee it up for the 2016 Mountain West Championships at Omni Tucson National in Tucson, Ariz., April 22-24.

Boise State finished 14th in this week’s event (319-300-306—925, +61), but were within three strokes of a pair of Mountain West schools - Air Force (923) and Nevada (922).

Texas Tech won the tournament at 12-over, and a pair of individuals tied for medalist honors at even-par.

Sophomores Tristan Rohrbaugh (83-76-77) and Jacob Byers (79-78-79) and senior Logan France (82-73-81) each finished at 236 (+20), rounding out the scoring for the Broncos.
