Elliott Leads Broncos at El Macero

EL MACERO, Calif. – Junior David Elliott led the Boise State men’s golf team in the opening round of the El Macero Classic Friday, carding a 3-over 75 to conclude the day tied for 14th.

Elliott registered three birdies and six bogeys in the opening round, held at the par-72, 6,900-yard El Macero Country Club.

Sophomore Jacob Byers was the only other Bronco to post a round in the 70s in what was a very windy day, finishing with a 7-over 79. He is tied for 40th amongst the 90 golfers in the field.

The Broncos concluded the opening day tied for 13th at 319 (+31), but are within seven strokes of seventh-place Fresno State.

Senior Logan France (82, +10), junior Kyle Mitsunaga (83, +11) and sophomore Tristan Rohrbaugh (83, +11) rounded out the scoring on the opening day of the three-day tournament.

Texas Tech (291, +3) leads the team standings, and the Red Raiders’ Federico Zucchetti is first individually after putting up the only sub-par score of the day (70, -2).

Saturday’s second round is scheduled to begin with tee times at 11 a.m. MT, and live scoring is available at Golfstat.
