March 22, 2016

LAKESIDE, Calif. – The Boise State men’s golf team concluded its Spring Break schedule, finishing in third place at the Barona Collegiate Cup, Tuesday.

The Broncos also competed in the Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz., earlier this week.

A pair of upperclassmen led the Broncos in the squad’s second and final event of the week, as senior Logan France finished 11th and junior Kyle Mitsunaga finished tied for 12th, helping lead Boise State to its best team effort since also finishing third at the OGIO UCSB Invitational, April 13-14, 2015.

France was one of 11 individuals in the 80-man field to finish the tournament under-par, shooting 2-under over three rounds (69-74-71—214) at the par-72, 7,354-yard Barona Creek Golf Club. Mitsunaga saved his best round for the final 18, shooting 2-under Tuesday to conclude the tournament with a three-round total of 216 (71-75-70, E).

“I’m happy for Logan and Kyle,” head coach Dan Potter said. “They played solid for three rounds. Connor Bell has stepped in and done a nice job. I’ve been impressed with his consistency, and look forward to watching him get even better going forward.

“This was a positive result for us, and a good way to end a long trip.”

Boise State began the day in fourth place, but carded the second-lowest team score of the final round, shooting 293 (+5). At 884 (290-301-293, +20), the Broncos were just four strokes back of second-place Minnesota. Tournament host and 24th-ranked San Diego State won the tournament at 24-under, and the Gophers’ Runar Arnorsson took home medalist honors at 9-under.

Bell (76-75-76), a freshman, and sophomore Tristan Rohrbaugh (74-77-76) each finished tied for 35th at 11-over (227). Junior Travis Evans rounded out the scoring for the Broncos, shooting 244 (80-84-80, +28).

The Broncos will return to action at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational, presented by OGIO, April 4-5, at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.
