Solid Start at Bandon Dunes for Broncos

BANDON, Ore. – Led by freshman Connor Bell, the Boise State men’s golf team put together a strong performance in the opening round of the Bandon Dunes Championship, Sunday.

Bell is tied for 11th following the first of three days of competition, shooting 73 at the par-71, 6,682-yard Bandon Trails Course at the Bandon Dunes Resort. He will enter Monday’s second round just one stroke back of the top 10, and two back of a four-way tie for fourth.

The Broncos shot 302 (+18) as a team in the opening round – good for seventh, but just six back of third place.

Sophomore Tristan Rohrbaugh is tied for 18th after carding a 4-over 75, while junior Kyle Mitsunaga and senior Logan France are each tied for 35th with 6-over 77s. Sophomore Jacob Byers rounded out the scoring with an 84 (+13).

Boise State is a stroke back of 39th-ranked UAB, and five back of 30th-ranked Washington. The Broncos also lead Pac-12 schools Washington State and Oregon State by four and six strokes, respectively, and are 22 clear of the only other Mountain West school in the field, San Jose State.

Ninth-ranked Clemson leads the tournament with a 6-over 290, and a trio of individuals shot 69 (-2) to lead the field.

The schools are scheduled to begin Monday’s second round with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (MT), and live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
