BOISE, Idaho – Boise State running back Jeremy McNichols was named to the Athlon Sports All-America Third Team Thursday.

It is the first All-America nod of McNichols’ career and the first for Boise State this season. McNichols had earned All-America votes from SB Nation and FOX Sports earlier in the week.

McNichols, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., is the national leader in touchdowns scored with 27 in 2016, while also ranking third with 23 rushing touchdowns, fourth in all-purpose yards (2,185) and fifth in both rushing yards (1,663). At the end of the regular season, McNichols, whose touchdown totals led the Mountain West while his all-purpose and rushing totals ranked second and third, respectively, was voted to the All-Mountain West Second Team.

The Bronco running back was a Doak Walker Award semifinalist and four-time Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week in 2016 while posting nine 100-yard rushing games and a Boise State-record three 200-yard rushing efforts. McNichols also leads all Mountain West backs in receptions (32) and receiving yards (450) while scoring four touchdowns through the air.

McNichols’ total of 1,663 rushing yards this year is the third-highest in Boise State single-season history, with his 27 total touchdowns third (five behind co-record holders Jay Ajayi and Brock Forsey) and his 23 rushing touchdowns fourth. Heading into Boise State’s still to-be-determined bowl matchup in December, McNichols needs just 174 all-purpose yards to eclipse Ajayi’s single-season mark of 2,358 all-purpose yards set in 2014.

McNichols and Boise State (10-2) will conclude the 2016 season Dec. 27 at the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl, facing Baylor (6-6) at Chase Field in Phoenix. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. on ESPN.
