It is Boise State's third trip to the Fiesta Bowl in nine seasons, and the 13th-straight bowl appearance for the Broncos, tied for seventh-longest in the nation. The Broncos previously played in the Fiesta Bowl following the 2006 (defeating No. 7 Oklahoma, 43-42 in overtime) and 2009 (defeating No. 4 TCU, 17-10) regular seasons.

Boise State (11-2) earned this season's bid to the Fiesta Bowl by capturing its first outright Mountain West title Saturday night with a 28-14 victory over Fresno State in the Sports Authority Mountain West Football Championship, and being the highest-ranked "Group of Five" team in the College Football Playoff Top 25. The Broncos ended the regular season as the only "Group of Five" team in the CFP Top 25.

This year's Fiesta Bowl will mark Boise State's first meeting with No. 10 Arizona (10-3). The Wildcats went 7-2 in Pac-12 play in 2014, capturing the conference's South Division title before falling to Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship Game on Dec. 5.
