BOISE, Idaho – “Fans with Cans” is the theme for the Boise State-Idaho football game next Saturday at Bronco Stadium, as Hunger Bowl 2009 takes center stage in one of the largest collaborative food drive benefits in the state of Idaho.

All those attending the game, and even those without a ticket and at the stadium enjoying the game day rivalry, are encouraged to bring their canned food items, with all donations going to benefit The Idaho Foodbank, The Salvation Army and The Boise Rescue Mission.  Collection totes (large boxes about six inches off the ground on a pallet) will be located at stadium entrances and other locations around Bronco Stadium, and Hunger Bowl volunteers will be pulling wagons through the various parking lots to make it easy on tailgaters to drop off their non-perishable donated food items.

More than 170,000 Idahoans live day to day unsure of their food supply, including 65,500 children.  The goal for Hunger Bowl 2009 is to generate 200,000 pounds to continue to fight the hunger problem locally and throughout the state.

The wagons and totes will be clearly marked with the Hunger Bowl logo, with volunteers helping with the food collection both in the parking lots and at the stadium gates.  This year marks the second annual Hunger Bowl, but the first united campaign involving The Idaho Foodbank, The Salvation Army and The Boise Rescue Mission.

Boise State and Idaho will be meeting the 39th time on the football field, in one of the most intense rivalries in all of college football.  This year’s game will kick-off at 1:30 p.m. on November 14th.
