BOISE, Idaho - Boise State kicker Tyler Rausa wasn’t left hanging by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Thursday morning as the organization named him one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl.

Rausa, famously left by his teammates to high-five and congratulate himself after making a field goal against Hawai’i on Oct. 3, is the only semifinalist from the Mountain West. He is the fourth Bronco to be named a semifinalist for the honor since 2000, joining Nick Calaycay, Tyler Jones (one of three finalists in 2004) and Kyle Brotzman.

In his first season as Boise State’s No. 1 kicker, Rausa is 17-for-20 on field-goal attempts including a perfect 16-for-16 from inside 50 yards, and 42-for-43 on PAT attempts. The Murrieta, Calif. native is in a four-way tie for the national lead with 17 field goals, shared with fellow award semifinalists Michael Badgley (Miami FL), Andrew Gantz (Cincinnati) and Austin Rehkow (Idaho), and his 93 points lead all FBS kickers and rank fourth overall.

Rausa, Badgley and Rehkow also share the highest field-goal percentage (.850) among kickers who have attempted at least 17 field goals this season.

Semifinalists will be voted on by FBS head coaches and sports information directors, a panel of kicking experts including all previous Groza finalists, and national and regional football writers to select the three finalists. These finalists will be announced on November 24 and honored at the 24th annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Banquet on December 7 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The winner will be announced live on ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, December 10.
