Kamalei Correa Named Mountain West Defensive Player Of The Week
Oct. 27, 2014

BOISE, Idaho - For the second straight week a Boise State student-athlete brought home the Mountain West's Defensive Player of the Week honor, as sophomore stud end Kamalei Correa was tabbed by the conference Monday morning.

Correa's honor, the first of his career, follows that of cornerback Donte Deayon a week ago and gives Boise State four weekly conference honors overall this season. Running back Jay Ajayi has twice been named the conference's offensive player of the week in 2014 (Sept. 8, Sept. 22).

Over the past three games Correa has been making his presence felt to opposing quarterbacks and ball carriers, racking up 3.5 sacks and six tackles-for-loss over the Broncos' current three-game winning streak. In Friday night's 55-30 win over BYU, the Honolulu native recorded a pair of sacks and 3.5 tackles-for-loss, with the TFL figure being the most for a Bronco in a single game since Demarcus Lawrence had 3.5 against Nevada on Oct. 19, 2013.

The performance was also Correa's second with multiple sacks this year, as he also dropped the quarterback twice at Connecticut on Sept. 13.

After this week's bye, Boise State (6-2, 3-1 MW) will return to conference action with four straight Mountain West games to conclude the regular season. That season-ending stretch opens Saturday, Nov. 8 at New Mexico, as the Broncos and Lobos kick off at 5 p.m. MT on CBS Sports Network.
