BOISE, Idaho - For the third straight year, Boise State University is ranked among the top-five in the season's first Bowl Championship Series standings with the Broncos coming in at No. 5.

The Broncos have a BCS average of .8027 and follow No. 1 LSU (.9522), No. 2 Alabama (.9519), No. 3 Oklahoma (.9301) and No. 4 Oklahoma state (.8568).

This is the third highest ranking for Boise State in the season's initial BCS standings.  Last year the Broncos started at No. 3 while they were ranked No. 4 in the first BCS standings of the 2009 season.

Boise State is the only team in the country that has started in the top-five of the BCS standings the past three years.

Oklahoma and Alabama have started the season among the top-five teams twice in the past three years with the Sooners beginning the 2010 standings at No. 1, while Alabama was No. 2 in the first BCS standings of the 2009 season.  LSU and Oklahoma State have not been in the initial BCS standings the past two seasons.

The BCS standings are compiled from the rankings in the USA Today Coaches poll, the Harris Interactive poll and the BCS computer rankings with all three counting one-third to make up the BCS average score.  Boise State is No. 5 in the Harris poll, and No. 6 by the coaches and computer rankings this week.

Boise State and the University of Houston are the only two schools from non-automatically qualifying conferences ranked in the BCS top-25.  Houston is No. 19.

In this week's Associated Press media poll, which does not count in the BCS standings, the Broncos remain fifth and continue to hold on to their one first place vote.  Boise State also received a first place vote in the Harris poll.

While the Broncos kept their No. 5 position in the AP and Harris polls, for the second straight week they fell a spot in the coaches' poll to No. 7.  Boise State is just one point behind Oklahoma State in the coaches' poll.

Along with its No. 1 ranking in the BCS standings, the Tigers are also No. 1 in the AP and Harris polls.  Oklahoma is No. 1 in the coaches' poll.

The Broncos return to Bronco Stadium for its next game this Saturday (Oct. 22) when they host the Air Force Academy.  The Homecoming game is set to kickoff at 1:30 p.m. (MT).
