McNichols, Wale Claim MW Honors
Sept. 26, 2016

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State football claimed two of the three weekly Mountain West honors Monday as Jeremy McNichols was named offensive player of the week and punter Sean Wale was tabbed the conference's top special-teams performer in Week 4.

For McNichols it is his second-career weekly conference honor, having previously earned it Sept. 21, 2015. Wale claims his first-career weekly honor and is the first Boise State punter to be named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week since the Broncos joined the conference in 2011.

It is also the third time in three seasons that Boise State has claimed the offensive and special teams honors in the same week. Quarterback Grant Hedrick and kicker Dan Goodale claimed the honors on Nov. 10, 2014, while McNichols and linebacker Tanner Vallejo took them home last Sept. 21.

McNichols and Wale shined in Boise State's 38-24 win at Oregon State Saturday, a victory that made the Broncos 10-3 against the Pac-12 since 2006 and was the program's fourth-straight triumph over the conference. McNichols set career bests with 208 rushing yards and four total touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving), and recorded his third-career touchdown run of at least 70 yards when he bolted 70 yards for his fourth touchdown of the day in the first half. The performance was the first 200-rushing-yard, four-touchdown game by a Bronco since Jay Ajayi ran for 229 yards and scored five touchdowns against Utah State on Nov. 29, 2014.

Wale averaged 46.5 yards over six punts Saturday, with three punts going for at least 50 yards and three landing inside the Beaver 20-yard line. The performance highlighted what has been a strong start to the year for Wale, who currently ranks tied for 25th in the country averaging 44.0 yards per punt.

Boise State, off to its first 3-0 start since 2011 and ranked 24th in the Associated Press Poll, opens Mountain West play this Saturday at Albertsons Stadium against Utah State. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
