Broncos In The NFL: Week 1

BOISE, Idaho - The opening week of the 2017 NFL season wrapped up Monday night, with plenty of Boise State alumni seeing action.

Entering Week 1 there were 22 former Broncos under contract with NFL clubs, with 13 on active 53-man rosters. Running back Doug Martin (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) was placed on Tampa Bay's reserve/suspended list and will miss the first three games of this season as he serves the remainder of his four-game suspension from the league. Linebacker Shea McClellin (New England Patriots), safeties Chanceller James (San Francisco 49ers) and Jeron Johnson (Jacksonville Jaguars), and defensive tackle Billy Winn (Denver Broncos) will spend the season on injured reserve after suffering season-ending injuries during the preseason, while four more Broncos, offensive lineman Travis Averill (Cleveland Browns), cornerback Donte Deayon (New York Giants), running back Jeremy McNichols (San Francisco 49ers), and cornerback Jonathan Moxey (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), opened the year on the practice squads of their respective teams.

Overall, nine Bronco alumni started for their respective teams in Week 1, led by Demarcus Lawrence, who recorded two sacks and another tackle-for-loss in the Cowboys' 19-3 win over the New York Giants.

Here's how the Bronco alumni fared in Week 1:

Jay Ajayi, RB (Miami Dolphins)
Ajayi, a 2016 Pro Bowler, will begin his third season in the league in Week 2, as this past Sunday's scheduled game between the Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers was postponed to Week 11 due to Hurricane Irma.

Kamalei Correa, OLB (Baltimore Ravens)
Correa started at linebacker in Baltimore's 20-0 shutout of Cincinnati Sunday, making four tackles, including one for loss.

Tyrone Crawford, DE (Dallas Cowboys)
Crawford returned from an ankle injury suffered early in training camp, making two tackles (one solo) in Dallas' 19-3 win over the New York Giants.

George Iloka, S (Cincinnati Bengals)
Iloka started at free safety Sunday, making three tackles (one solo) in the Bengals' 20-0 loss to Baltimore.

DeMarcus Lawrence, DE (Dallas Cowboys)
Lawrence, who started at defensive end in Sunday night's 19-3 win over the New York Giants, had a huge game for the Cowboys. Lawrence recorded a pair of sacks and three tackles-for-loss, finishing the game with five tackles (four solo) overall.

Charles Leno, Jr., OT (Chicago Bears)
Leno started at left tackle in Chicago's 23-17 loss to Atlanta Sunday.

Kellen Moore, QB (Dallas Cowboys)
Moore served as Dallas' backup quarterback in Sunday night's 19-3 win over the New York Giants, but did not see action.

Rees Odhiambo, G (Seattle Seahawks)
Odhiambo started at left tackle for the Seahawks in their 17-9 loss at Green Bay.

Matt Paradis - C - Denver Broncos
Paradis started at center in Denver's 24-21 victory Monday night against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Orlando Scandrick, CB (Dallas Cowboys)
Scandrick started at cornerback for the Cowboys Sunday night, making two tackles (one solo) in Dallas' 19-3 win over the New York Giants.

Jamar Taylor, S (Cleveland Browns)
Taylor started at cornerback Sunday and played all 60 snaps, making six tackles (three solo) in Cleveland's 21-18 loss to Pittsburgh.

Darian Thompson, S (New York Giants)
Thompson started at free safety for the Giants in their 19-3 loss at Dallas Sunday night, making three tackles (two solo).

Tanner Vallejo, LB (Buffalo Bills)
Vallejo, a sixth-round draft pick by Buffalo in 2017, was inactive for Sunday's 21-12 win over the New York Jets due to a knee injury.
