Ajayi Adds Earl Campbell Award Honor
Sept. 9, 2014

BOISE, Idaho - Jay Ajayi was named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week Tuesday morning.

The redshirt junior running back added the honor to his collection for the week, which also includes Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week and Athlon Sports' Mountain West Player of the Week recognition after racking up 280 all-purpose yards, including 219 on the ground, and three touchdowns in Boise State's 37-24 victory over Colorado State Saturday night. Ajayi carried the ball a personal-best 33 times and finished just three rushing yards shy of his career high (222) with a pair of touchdowns while also catching four passes for 61 yards and another score.

Through the first two weeks of the season Ajayi ranks in the national top 10 in all-purpose yardage (229.5 yards per game - third), rushing (305 yards - sixth), and rushing yards per game (152.5 ypg, 10th).

He also moved into ninth on the Boise State all-time rushing list as his career yardage increased to 2,278. He also joined Cedric Minter, Ian Johnson and Brock Forsey as the only Bronco backs with multiple 200-yard rushing games.

Ajayi is a nominee for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, which recognizes the top offensive player in FBS football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year Division I Texas college.

Boise State (1-1, 1-0 MW) makes its second cross-country trip this week, taking on Connecticut at 10 a.m. MT in East Hartford. The game will be aired locally on ABC and on ESPN2 outside of the Boise regional market.
